DÉVELOPPEMENT DURABLE
SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Recycling and waste management
The SD & SR referential specific to Higher Education and Research plans reaching a target of 75% of recycled waste. To meet these objectives, IMT-BS organizes waste management through actions aiming to reduce, sort and raise awareness of waste pollution.
- Sorting of cans, plastic bottles and cups was implemented on campus in December 2018. It is provided by Lemon Tri, a private service provider which ensures the recycling treatment of these types of waste and provides every month the quantitative and qualitative sorting balance and the associated carbon balance.
- Trash cans with two separate bins are installed in most offices to sort paper, cardboard and coffee capsules. This recyclable waste is then taken care of by the community.
- Plastic cups have been replaced by paper cups.
- WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is donated or resold. Computers in good condition are donated to associations. Defective equipment is repaired by the association Recyclage EcoCitoyen Label Solidaire (RECLS) and redistributed to underprivileged families. The individual printers have been replaced by collective ones, thus contributing to the reduction of WEEE production.
- Plastic caps are donated to the association Bouchons de l’Espoir. Their collection is managed by the student association Uni’vert.
- Chemicals, furniture, batteries and toners are handled by private service providers.
- Old books are sold to Ammaréal, a book recovery company, and the profits are redistributed as donations to the associations Mots et Merveilles and Secours Populaire Français in the framework of missions of access to education and culture.
- The restaurant recycles its own packaging and bio waste.
Responsible purchasing
For several years, IMT-BS has been engaged in a progressive approach to responsible purchasing:
- Exclusive use of eco-labelled products for the maintenance of green spaces (as written down in the specifications),
- Purchase of eco-designed furniture,
- Use of catering services using organic, seasonal or local products.
- Since 2020, IMT-BS has decided to switch to a different data center to host its website. It is now hosted by Infomaniak, which uses electrical energy coming exclusively from renewable sources.
- For renovation work, IMT-BS uses eco-materials. Solutions made from natural materials are preferred for the floors.
