The Global Village, or how to travel without leaving campus

On November 27, the Global Village took place, an annual event organized by the student associations Les Partenariats d’Excellence (LPE) and Welcom’. As every year, this evening highlighted the cultural diversity present on the campuses of Institut Mines-Télécom Business School and Télécom SudParis.

A culinary and artistic tour of the world

For more than ten years, Global Village has been one of the most eagerly awaited events in student life. Its goal? To celebrate cultural diversity and international openness, notably through food stands and activities such as dance demonstrations. A total of twenty nationalities were represented at twenty food stands: Algeria, China, Congo, Brazil, France—there was even a Breton stand!—enough to take you on a trip around the world in one evening, without leaving Évry. Participants discovered a variety of traditions through traditional dishes, costumes, and music.

The event attracted a large audience of French and international students, as well as staff members. The campus forum was transformed into a cultural crossroads where everyone could taste, exchange, and learn more about the culture of their peers.

The origins of Global Village

Global Village is a highlight in the calendar of both schools. It is an opportunity for people to meet and share ideas, fostering cohesion between Institut Mines-Télécom Business School and Télécom SudParis.

Two committed student associations are behind this project: Les Partenariats d’Excellence (LPE) and Welcom’.

LPE promotes equal opportunities. Each year, the association supports nearly 80 middle school students through homework assistance and mentoring programs.

Welcom’ is dedicated to welcoming and supporting international students. The association helps them with administrative procedures and supports them in settling in and with their daily lives.

For these two associations, the Global Village is a unifying event, where their commitments come together around shared values: openness, sharing, and inclusion.

International students at the heart of the Global Village

Among the main participants in the Global Village are students from around the world who have chosen to join Institut Mines-Télécom Business School or Télécom SudParis for their exchange semester. They take advantage of the event to introduce their country, cuisine, and traditions to their classmates and staff.

Beyond this celebration, the Global Village also serves as a reminder that internationalism plays an essential role at both schools. Students at Institut Mines-Télécom Business School and Télécom SudParis have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad, pursue a dual degree, or complete an internship abroad thanks to the schools’ extensive network of academic partners. Every year, several hundred students seize this opportunity to discover a new country, perfect a language, or gain valuable intercultural experience.

For many, Global Village is the first step toward an international adventure: an event that inspires, motivates, and opens up new perspectives.
